One Important Tip To Help You Give Up Smoking Cigarettes

Watching people smoke when you’re trying to give up is difficult but unavoidable. Here’s how you can deal with it.

I saw someone performing the smoker’s squat whilst on my bike ride this morning and the image is frozen in my mind. What is the smoker’s squat? A smoker is crouching down, their bum is almost touching the ground, they are resting their forearms on the top of their knees, in one hand they hold their cigarette which they pivot back and forth to their mouth. They might also be leaning against a wall, like the lady I saw this morning, to eliminate any chance of falling backward once the nicotine hits and they crumble with relief.

The smoker’s squat is the go-to position to smoke a cigarette from when no seating is available. Depending on where you are in the world it might be called the ‘Asian Squat’, or the ‘Slav Squat’. This squat-smoke combo is popular worldwide but only smokers truly understand the joy it can bring (or ex-smokers as in my case) — non-smokers have to go onto Reddit to try and understand this behavioral nuance. The exclusivity of this squat-smoke club is conveyed perfectly in a vine skit made by American comedian Jo Koy back in 2013.
